One
by Harry Nilsson
One is the loneliest number
that you'll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It's the loneliest number
since the number one
No is the saddest experience
you'll ever know
Yes it's the saddest experience
you'll ever know
Because one is the loneliest number
that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number
that you'll ever know
It's just no good any more
since you went away
Now I spend my time
just making rhymes of yesterday
Because one is the loneliest number
that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number
that you'll ever know
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number
much, much worse than two
One is a number divided by two
One is the loneliest number
David Bowie and Cher performed a duet of 'One' for an
episode of
Cher's television show.
Cory Wells of Three Dog Night, who had a number one hit with
"One", had this to say about Nilsson:
'The point is we're really picky about things. We could have
been
like a lot of groups and crammed things down the public's throat
because we wrote them. And, of course, you make a lot of money
writing your own songs. But I don't think anybody has really felt
really confident that we've written anything of the caliber of
Nilsson or Randy Newman. And it's proved out to be correct.'
